Comfort foods for the soul (6): Just watch the sound

I used to hate rain.
Why not?

It’s wet, messy, slippery.

People’s umbrellas on the street were most annoying.
For they opened them even walking under balconies!

And then the traffic!

But then when my attention was turned to green fields and nature, perspective changed.

Rain is essential to plants and flowers.
After rain, grass becomes taller, and greener.
Even the obnoxious dandelions proliferate with yellow and white colors, coning unsuspecting observers to like them.

But eventually rain gives way to sunshine.
Another chapter of marvel unfolds.

Pay attention and one would observe a stubborn phenomenon.
It never changes.
Kind of like magnets attracting and rebelling.

What’s that?

All flowers, regardless of kinds, all turn towards one direction: the sun!
No exception.
Not just sunflowers!

Botanists of course have fulsome explanations.
I’m not qualified, so will keep quiet.

What I ponder is this:
What does the fact that flowers invariably do that say about the creation?

First, there’s clearly a non-verbal and unspoken message.
A message that can only be heard by eyes, not ears.

Or in fact, a message never uttered, demanding observation and contemplation.

The sun is the source of life.
Flowers know it.
So they orientate towards the sun.

No matter how one has turned them, flowers will stubbornly find a way to look towards the sun.
Creation seeks life source.

Only in such a relationship and orientation will creation return to the most natural.
An indisputable basic truth.

No need to fight.

Millennia ago a poem observed:
They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.

A message from the creation without sound.
How poetic.
How insightful.

Flowers speak all the time, saying:
“Just watch the sound.”

The Bible, Psalm 19:1-6, New Living Translation:

1    The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
  The skies display his craftsmanship.

2    Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.

3    They speak without a sound or word;
  their voice is never heard.

4    Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world.

God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
5    It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding.
It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race.

6    The sun rises at one end of the heavens
and follows its course to the other end.
Nothing can hide from its heat.
